Okay, last one, I promise…and then I’ll get back to blogging about something other than Catching Fire!
This is a hypothetical look under the question ‘if Cinna wasn’t the District 12 designer, what would Katniss wear?’ so let’s find out!
Darker more “coal” like eyes:
A dress very un-Katniss like…but definitely more futuristic Capitol-like:
Ridiculous footwear (though I see the embellishment in silver rather than gold):

Catching Fire is now out in theaters! As excited as I am, I’m avoiding the weekend crush and seeing it with a friend on Monday night. Hopefully, it will be a good representation of the second title in the Hunger Games trilogy.
Now let’s fast forward ahead to the fashion…this is my idea of what Cinna might select for Katniss if she were attending a formal Capitol affair such as a fancy dress ball. Enjoy!

The next film in the Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire, premieres next Friday. I’m wildly excited to see it. I loved the book series and thought the first movie was a decent adaptation…but story aside, I’m confident that Capitol Fashion will be HUGE and INSANELY FUN (and very likely ridiculous) this time around!
Inspired by the movie, I’ve developed my own look for Katniss. What you’re about to see is my idea of what Cinna might choose if she were attending a Capitol cocktail party. It’s a more classic mod look rather than overly adventurous, but it still summons the fiery image he shaped for her as a tribute.
No doubt she’d hate attending any Capitol function; still playacting as the newest, happiest victor would be par for the course, and hopefully, at least, Katniss would be mollified by eating the lamb stew with plums and prunes. 😉
For the premiere next Friday, I’ll feature a more elegant ball gown concept for Katniss!

This weekend, I took an archery class with a group of friends and found myself in league with some of my favorite fictional archers:
Diana the Huntress
And might I say that a collective symphony of awes reverberated in the room when our instructor pointed out the type of bow that Katniss uses, and then gave it to one lucky female archery student. If I were a guy, I think I would have saved my sigh of envy for the crossbow that Daryl uses from The Walking Dead, but as I’m a huge fan of The Hunger Games trilogy, I too was excited to see the type of bow favored by Katniss yet disappointed that the bow was not in my possession. :sigh:
I loved archery! It was lots of fun…and I actually managed to hit the target fairly well. Though my skill level would track as a bell curve if plotted out. At the start, I was clumsy and stiff and barely made any good hits but midway through, I had loosened up and hit my stride. In fact, I had the most hits within the center zone of my group, though the bullseye eluded me. It’s a little difficult to see from this photo crop but it is proof I hit the center 8 times.
Then at the end, I was still hitting the target but with less precision because I had (perhaps) started to feel a little pressure to hit that pesky bullseye.
All in all, it was lots of fun…much more fun that I had ever imagined. This summer, I plan to check out the range in Queens for some closer to home practice.
