The January Want List

The January Want List

purse
January is finally almost over, and it’s been cold, cold, cold in NYC! I feel as though I ought to be posting photos of burly parkas and fleece-lined boots instead of the little wisps I have ready for you readers today!

Above is a gorgeous crossbody bag that I would love to own…and very soon! There is a great everyday feel to it but the gold adds a splash of excitement without being gaudy.

Now onto the main list…

To wear in the chilly weather, perhaps while dining at a Parisienne cafe watching street traffic and channeling the jazz age, all the while indulging in a gin fizz or old-fashioned:

hat

Just because:

leggings

Digging the hot air balloon leggings…it reminds me of old-time carousels and gaslight fantasy novels.

For the 9-5 job:

skirt

Cute textured flip skirt from C. Luce…

purseGeometric-shaped crossbody from Danielle Nicole…it screams sophisticated work bag…and appears large enough to hold all my devices and other traveling items without being bulky.

top

Loving this Sachin & Babi knit top…my office is pretty casual but if we only had casual Fridays, this top would fit the bill of sassy and fun, and still seem appropriate.

More to come in February…probably lots of swim and resort wear plus travel gear as I prep for my big trip to Australia and Hawaii!

A couple of books to add to the pile…

Standard

Daily Candy posted an article about their most anticipated books for this year…I read over the list and while most of them didn’t interest me, I did find a couple of interesting gems so I’m throwing them on my digital book pile.  I took recommendations from io9 last year though and was mostly disappointed.  Here’s hoping these suggestions prove more entertaining!

Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi
Releases 3/6/14

–The Snow White story retold (again)…the line from the blurb that drew me: “fearlessly tackles complicated issues like race and female competitiveness, even as it tells a fascinating story.”

Frog Music by Emma Donoghue
Releases 4/1/14

–Author of Room (which is amazing)…this title is a work of historical fiction based on a crime in 1876 San Francisco.

The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
Releases 9/4/14

–a flight of magic and fantasy, what drew my eye: “set partially in a near-future Ireland after the world’s climate has collapsed.”

Anticipation Builds for New Book Releases

Standard

2014 is going to be a big year of reading!

My goals are to read 100 new books and to discover a new series that will captivate me completely (preferably one that has already finished or is almost done so I’m not adding more books to my can’t wait, devour, and then sigh wait ANOTHER year only to repeat cycle).

The list is a little lighter than it was last year.  Partly because a number of series came to an end last year and book release dates (and even titles) not available yet for others. Mostly though, I have a couple of series I’ve started and want to finish…the books are there, I just need to READ! Of course that last statement conflicts with goal number two but I merely consider that motivation to finish up my digital bookshelf to make way for something completely new.

List (sorted by release date):

Up from the Grave (Night Huntress conclusion) by Jeaniene Frost
Releases 1/28/14

Burn (Pure #3) by Julianna Baggott
Releases 2/4/14

Dawn’s Early Light (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #3) by Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine
Releases 3/25/14

A Lady of Spirit (Magnificent Devices #6) by Shelley Adina
Releases 5/31/14

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha Trilogy #3) by Leigh Bardugo
Releases 6/3/14

The Book of Life (All Souls Triology # 3) by Deborah Harkness
Releases 7/15/14

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews
Releases 7/29/14

Sisters’ Fate (The Cahill Witch Chronicles #3) by Jessica Spotswood
Releases 8/13/14

The Infinite Sea (The Fifth Wave #2) by Rick Yancy
Releases 9/16/14

The Winter Long (October Daye #8) by Seanan McGuire
Releases Sept 2014

I’ll be adding to this list over the next few months as book release dates start to crop up, so please check back for updates as year continues.

Also, if you have any book suggestions, please feel free to post. :)

Update to the Digital Bookshelf

Standard

2013 is over, but before the year ended, I managed to cross off a healthy amount of books from my digital bookshelf (32 out of 39 actually) plus a number of books that didn’t end up on said bookshelf (out of sheer laziness on my part, I’ll be better in 2014, I promise).

The forlorn books collecting dust up on the shelf are still there, and very soon they will be joined by bright and shiny new ones.  Also, in short order, I’ll be getting out a post about upcoming book releases that I’m excited over. 🙂
